Dojo Etiquette & Atmosphere

Clothing & Gear
What should I wear to my first class? For your first trial class, just wear comfortable athletic clothing (like leggings or sweatpants and a T-shirt). You don’t need a uniform yet! We require clean socks on the mats for all classes – please no bare feet. If you decide to join, a traditional martial arts uniform (gi) is included with your registration.
What is the dress code for regular classes? To ensure a safe and focused training environment, all regular students are required to follow our professional dress code:
- Full Martial Arts Uniform: Includes the dogi top, gi pants, and your belt.
- Under-layer: A plain black t-shirt must be worn under the dogi.
- Feet: Clean socks must be worn on the mats.
- Environment & Modesty: To maintain a professional atmosphere and minimize distractions, bare chests, tank tops, and sports bras are not permitted as the only layer under the dogi top or outer layer. This policy supports our commitment to a modest and respectful training space for all ages.
Billing & Membership
How much does a membership cost? We believe in transparent, straightforward pricing. For a full breakdown of our tuition, registration, and any enrollment specials, please visit our Membership & Tuition Page.
Our Philosophy
What is Ninpo Taijutsu? Ninpo Taijutsu is an authentic Japanese martial art focused on natural movement, survival, and practical self-defense. It emphasizes technique, body mechanics, leverage, and awareness to overcome an attacker regardless of size or strength.
Why focus on “Traditional Roots”? We believe that the time tested effectiveness of the techniques and wisdom of historical Japanese martial arts provides the most effective foundation for movement and mindset. By studying these traditional roots, we gain a deeper understanding of balance, center, and efficiency.
What does “Modern Readiness” mean? Modern Readiness is the practical application of our training to the challenges of the present day. It is a commitment to being prepared for any situation through five core pillars:
- Core Self-Defense Skills: You will learn the essential techniques required for effective personal protection, adapted to each age group.
- Physical & Mental Fortitude: Our training builds the physical resilience and disciplined mindset necessary to stay calm under pressure.
- Real-World Application: We ensure traditional techniques are adapted to work effectively in modern, high-stress scenarios.
- Superior Balance & Control: You will gain total body control and the ability to maintain your center while dominating a confrontation.
- Unshakeable Confidence: By mastering proven skills, you cultivate a deep sense of self-assurance that carries over into every aspect of your life.
